World Breastfeeding Awareness Week 1 – 7 August 2024
World Breastfeeding Week (WABA) is a global campaign to raise awareness and galvanise actions on themes related to breastfeeding.
World Breastfeeding Week aims to highlight the huge benefits that breastfeeding can bring to both the health and welfare of babies, as well as a wider push for maternal health, focusing on good nutrition, poverty reduction and food security.
Breastfeeding weeks aim to raise awareness of the health and wellbeing outcomes of breastfeeding and the importance of supporting mothers to breastfeed for as long as they wish.
Objectives of World Breastfeeding Week
Inform
people about inequalities that exist in breastfeeding support and prevalence
Anchor
breastfeeding as an equaliser to close gaps within society
Engage
with individuals and organisations to enhance collaboration and support for breastfeeding
Galvanise
action on reducing inequalities in breastfeeding support by focusing on vulnerable groups
